Ok, so this post is a little later than I planned. My goal was to get my #combcoils a professional re-twist for my 3 week update. Due to some factors within and without my control I ended up doing the wash and a light re-twist myself.

First, I sectioned my #coils into 4 parts before placing a stocking cap on top to preserve them from the rushing water. Next, I agitated my scalp with a modest amount of Dr. Bronners Peppermint Castile Soap to lift any dirt from my scalp without undoing my #locs. After a shake and quick blot with a towel, I was ready to #palmroll and clip down my coils. (Tip: leaving your hair sectioned after removing the cap makes re-twisting a bit easier) Finally, once my hair was 80% dry, I finished it with a quick blow dry, and wrapped it in a satin scarf for bed.

Had I done this routine earlier in the day I may have just let it continue to air dry, instead of using the blow dryer, but as a rule, you don't want to sleep on wet #locs at any stage, as they may not dry fast enough to avoid the odor of mildew.

Also this happened...

My cousin, our children and I took an 8 hour road trip to Charlotte, NC for a surprise birthday party. We had a great time taking in the scenery, spending time with the kids and catching up with good friends and family. It was a modest excursion, but one where all involved got a chance to relax, slow down, and reconnect. Some of the guests had not seen my son or I in nearly 15 years, so it was certainly a long time coming,

We didn't get to anywhere exotic this trip, but having a chance to enjoy a this great country from new and different vantage points, and spending time with my favorite people, was enough to fill me up until the next vacation. I hope all of you got a chance to do what makes you happy, with those who fill your life with joy this past weekend. No matter whether it was turning up or taking it down, hope the 4th affords you another great chance to exercise a little extra freedom with your tribe. Happy Independence, #stayfree.
